The Alamo is located at 300 Alamo Plaza in downtown
San Antonio, Texas.

More than 2.5 million people a year visit the 4.2 acre complex known worldwide as "The Alamo." Most come to see the old mission where a small band of Texans held out for thirteen days against the Centralist army of General Antonio López de Santa Anna.

The Alamo is open every day of the year except Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Our hours are 9:00 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. Monday through Saturday and 10:00 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. on Sunday. To better serve visitors, the Alamo will remain open on Fridays and Saturdays until 7 P.M. during the months of June, July and August.

Admission to the Alamo is free.
Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Inc. (DRT) receives no monetary help from local, state or federal government and depend solely upon money from sales in the Alamo Gift Museum, donations from individuals and private foundation grants to fund its educational programming and general operation.

Scheduling a Group Visit

We give history talks to visitors on the hour and the half hour except during lunch time (12pm – 1:00pm).  Due to the number of visitors that visit the Alamo each year we are unable to give walking tours.

If you have a large group or a school group please phone the Shrine desk at 210-225-1391 ext. 14.  Whoever answers the phone can reserve a time that is best for your group.

When you phone the Shrine desk, have the following information ready:

  1. Number of students and grade(s)
  2. Number of teachers/adults
  3. Date of visit
  4. Desired time of visit
  5. Contact person and phone number
  6. If you would like to schedule a history talk or a “walk-through”
