Welcome to Vintage Doll Collecting Information Portal

I am making "comment codes" using my vintage doll collection photos. If you are interested in using these codes for your own comments on social sites, you may do so. The codes are listed here:
Your collection of Vintage Dolls should be "what you like." Don't spend your time, money and effort on a collection of Vintage Dolls for the sake of profit alone. If you are not sure the Vintage Doll is the type of collection you want or to include with other collections of dolls, then start with just a few, perhaps a few dolls from different categories such as two or three from the Antique Dolls and two or three from the Modern Dolls, and so on. Collecting dolls is a world all its own. If you stick with what you like, then both your interest in your choices and your collection will grow. The pictures under the Category Heading of "Doll Pictures" are dolls of my own Vintage Collection. I like the dolls Baby Boomers played with, since that is the era I grew up in.
This web site will focus upon the "Vintage" Doll Collector and Doll Collections.
I personally collect what I like to display and look at regardless of value or maker as a hobby. I do not give a second thought as to how they will profit me other than "entertainment of dressing and displaying them. Most of my Vintage dolls are purchased at estate sales at a minimum price. The little blonde girl here cost me only $7. Of course, if I find a doll I really can't do without at a much higher price, I would not let the higher price keep me from purchasing her or him. The purchase would still be based upon what "I Like" rather than what the purchase is worth or could be sold for later. To each his own........you can collect Vintage Dolls solely for the profit as well, or....even as for profit and hobby, of course. It is just probably wiser NOT to spend your time, money and efforts on a collection of Vintage Dolls for the sake of profit alone. Half the fun of collecting is learning about the dolls, the manufacturer and just looking at how beautiful they are on display.
Effanbee Dolls seem to be the ones I love the best. The two girls below are soooo sweet. They just look like two little girls who are always behaving "perfectly."
Vintage Dolls are from the mid-20th century generally between the years of 1930-1980. They include mostly composition, hard plastic dolls, celluloid dolls, and the early vinyl dolls. This also include the childhood toys of the Baby Boomers. They span the history of American dollmaking that include companies like Madame Alexander, Ideal, Effanbee, American Character and Mattel. They also include the icons of the 20th century such as Shirley Temple and vintage Barbie dolls. If you were a child who played with these dolls or just love the fashions of the 20th century, then Vintage Doll Collecting may be just right for you.
Vintage Dolls can be collected for less than $100 each and some for under $20.
You probably will need to set yourself a goal. Do you want a small collection of rare exceptional and most likely quite expensive Vintage Dolls, or do you want a collection just simply pleasurable to look at? Will this be an investment or a hobby for you? Throughout the pages of this web site, you will learn ways of finding and collecting dolls as well as what types of dolls to collect depending on whether or not this is a hobby or an investment for you.
Beware of overpricing as you look for Vintage dolls for your collection. Some people think that if it is an old doll, it is worth more money. This is not the case at all.
I think this is a handsome group of little girls made of Horsman, Mattel, Lovee and Zaph. I call the Horsman Blonde in blue and white dress, my little Swedish girl, the blonde next to her is by Mattel (All American Girl), the girl in the forefront has a bit of oriental look to her (I think she is part Chinese, Part American), the girl in red and white with the red shoes is a Kentucky Mountain girl, the one in light blue and bonnet is a little girl from the hills of Tennessee, and then the tall girl here came over from Germany to join our doll family.
Did you know there are "doll shows" you can go to? We will cover that topic as well. Doll shows are a great place to find great deals. Dealers at doll shows usually know the worth of what they have. You can learn a lot from other doll collectors and doll dealers at the doll shows.
