Christmas is an annual holiday that celebrates the birth of Jesus.  It also refers to the Christmastide season and usually concludes with the Feast of Epiphany.  The date of celebration is traditional and is not considered to be the actual date of birth of Jesus.  Christmas celebrations often combine the observation of the Nativity with various cultural customs.  It is also observed as a cultural holiday by many non-Christians.

 

In most places around the world, Christmas Day is celebrated on December 25.  Christmas Eve is the preceding day, December 24.

 

Modern traditions include the display of Nativity scenes, holly and Christmas trees, the exchange of gifts and cards, and the arrival of Father Christmas or Santa Claus on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning.  One of the most popular themes of Christmas include the promotion of goodwill and peace toward all men and women.
