Adopting Puppies A Puppy Owner's Manual

A new "Puppy" is what you want

On one hand, this thought brings a smile to your face as you think about a soft, tail-wagging bundle of joy puppy!  On the other hand, you are probably wondering just what comes with puppyhood?

  • And then, also, have you decided which breed of puppy you want?
  • What about different puppy personalities and which one is right for you, your family and lifestyle?
  • Training?
  • Health care?

Most of the questions you will have regarding your pup's basic care and training will not be immediately answered by the person or persons you purchase a puppy from.  You will have to learn on your own:

  • how best to confine the puppy while you are out,
  • how much to walk he or she,
  • and when to look for help of a trainer for behavior issues.
  • Do you know exactly how to go about cleaning up a mess the puppy makes in the crate or on your carpet?

You could purchase a book, of course, but why do that when you have access to the internet.  Just go online and type into your search bar the following:  http://smalldogs2.com/AdoptingPuppies  This is the address to a puppy owner's manual online that will answer most of your questions now and in the future all written in an easy-to-read and easy-to-navigate format.  Bookmark us here:   Click here to add this page to your favoritesIn this manual you will find information about all breeds of dogs, big and small - 125 breeds of dogs to be exact.

Dogs Need Lots of Attention

I have really learned this lesson while living with my Shih Tzu.    Certain breeds need more attention than other breeds.  Before you purchase that puppy you are really wanting, read through the breed appearance and personality descriptions on this web site to get an idea of what might fit you, your family and lifestyle.

By the way, if you are looking for a Shih Tzu, I raise Shih Tzu puppies, so take a look at my Shih Tzu Puppies for Sale website here:  http://www.stainglassshihtzus.com   The next five pictures of my own Shih Tzu clan.

Dogs are so unlike guinea pigs.  They do not accept social isolation well.  You just cannot expect a dog to be happy sitting alone in a room all day with newspapers spread out for their bathroom or what have you, a bowl of water and some food.

Research Dog Breed Personality and Temperaments

Busy, on-the-go people need the love of a dog just as much as the dog needs your love.  There are breeds especially for you, independent breeds with medium-to-low energy level.  Again, you really need to research about the different breeds of dogs, before you purchase that one or several special puppies.
